Nearly 40 years ago a small group of women in the Coronado Cays began an organization to help improve life for children around San Diego. Over time the organization has evolved into what FOCUS is today, a group of men and women in Coronado dedicated to providing direct support for charitable foundations and partners that seek to assist children in need locally. Today Pat Robitaille is the president of FOCUS, (Friends of Children United Society), and I had a chance to speak with her more about the group.

“When I first moved to Coronado just a few years ago,” Robitaille began, “my neighbor happened to be a part of FOCUS and said I should start out shopping [for FOCUS] and get involved.” While FOCUS raises money to support charitable groups and agencies (100% of which always goes to the foundations), members also take a direct approach with support by providing agencies with much-needed items such as beds, clothes, food – whatever immediate needs are requested that can be met. “When you go into the agency and find out what it’s all about, you find how much these things can really make a difference,” Robitaille said.

Long-time Coronado real estate agent Ed Noonan has opened Noonan Properties, a new real estate brokerage serving Coronado Cays, in August .

Ed has over 40 years’ experience in real estate. He was the former broker/owner of the Coronado Cays Realty and two Prudential offices, one in Coronado and one in the Cays. In 1995 he sold his brokerage and moved to the Midwest, where he successfully operated Noonan Properties, a holding company for foreclosed properties. But throughout that time he remained connected to Coronado, returning frequently to spend time with his two sons and the many friends he has in Coronado. During the 30 years that Ed lived in the Cays, he was very involved in the community. He served as commodore of the Coronado Cays Yacht Club in 1992, and was involved with the building of the new club. Has also managed Little League, was a scout master and was an active member in the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, MainStreet Association and Kiwanis.

Having owned 3 brokerages in Coronado and the Cays, he has hired and trained many of today’s local real estate

Our three Coronado based Yacht Clubs: Coronado Cays Yacht Club, Coronado Yacht Club and Navy Yacht Club San Diego have set a $100,000 fundraising goal. To reach the goal, the clubs are hosting a day-long event at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club, 30 Caribe Cay Boulevard, on Saturday, May 16 that includes two “Amazing Race”-style competitions.

The day kicks off with teams of bicyclists who will ride to ten different places across Coronado Cays to complete competitive events. A less strenuous event will find teams in electric boats cruising around the Cays to several locations to complete their challenges while teams will answer trivia questions underway.
