While we are watching in our country and in the world, an increasing rise in divisiveness and bigotry, how sad it was to see a banner discriminating against the LGBT community being displayed on July 11th on the median as one entered Coronado.

Held up on public land, on the corner of Third and Orange, this sign was the greeting that visitors had as they drove into our beautiful town. I for one, am ashamed....that is not who we are.

In addition to the words, familiar corporate logos were used as endorsements of this sentiment. Although there was a sentence under the logos claiming they were used without permission, this sentence could not have been read by passing vehicles.

I fully understand the First Amendment right of freedom of speech. But when prejudice and discrimination are allowed to be displayed on public land, I think we are putting our society at risk. Where does it end?

Thank you
