Hypocrisy is an odd affliction. Those who are most hypocritical fail to see it in themselves. They fail to see how their behaviors contradict their words. Recently Coronado residents who had “Trump for President” signs on their lawns, woke to find new signs stating, “Racists Live Here.” Hateful signs were placed by those who were against the re-election of President Donald Trump, presumably by those who preferred to support Joe Biden for president. Your children are watching you and hearing every nasty comment you utter. We hope children did not hear their parents applaud the placement of these hateful and dangerous signs. Are you guilty of sowing systemic hate for others in your home?
How strange to accuse others. Do the accusers not know that then Senator Joe Biden proudly claimed his mentor was, former Klansman and segregationist Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia? Do they know that Robert Byrd’s membership and success in recruiting new members to the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940’s earned him the title of Exhalted Cyclops. With support from the Ku Klux Klan, Robert Byrd was elected to to the House of Representatives, (D) West Virginia in 1953. In 1959 Byrd was elected to the United Stated Senate, (D) West Virginia. In 1974 Senator Joe Biden joined Senators Byrd and Strom Thurman (Thurman ran for president as a Dixiecrat in 1948, elected Senator (R) from South Carolina in 1964) in opposing school bussing to integrate public schools. Was that racism?
Another infamous senator, caused chaos and devastation in the lives of others by accusing innocent people of Communism. Senator Joe McCarthy (R) Wisconsin made accusations and ran Senate hearings from 1950 to 1954 based on his belief that over 205 Communists had infiltrated the United States government and armed services. Millions began to see “The Red Menace” everywhere. McCarthyism caused hundreds of men and women job loss, community standing and death. They were blackballed; lives and families ruined due to blind hatred. Today, there are influential Congress people who want to investigate and blackball people simply because they worked under the direction and in support of a President they hate. Would that blind hatred be called Bidenism? McCarthy was silenced at one of his hearings by attorney for the Army Frederick Fisher, with the words, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” Joe McCarthy was censured by his fellow senators and died at age 57; a man ruined by his own hatred. Hatred and teaching hatred to ones’ children will ruin people.
Coronado residents and visitors put aside their differences to welcome an American Navy SEAL hero and member of Congress to the Crown City on Saturday, Nov. 7. Congressman Dan Crenshaw (R) Texas, appeared at Mc P’s for a book signing from noon to well after 6 p.m. Hundreds stood in a line that circled around from Orange Avenue, Tenth and C Avenue. Friendly exchanges between neighbors and strangers took place. That is the real Coronado. Congressman Crenshaw signed 500 copies of his book ‘Fortitude’ as well as taking pictures with fans. Thank you Bay Books and everyone who good-naturedly stood in line. Thank you Congressman Crenshaw for bringing people together.
Coronado, bringing people together for the good of all. This is the shining reputation that is the goal of the Crown City. No more hateful signs, hateful words for our neighbors. We all need to display our sense of decency.
