The “in process” Port District draft Master Plan suggests allowing for a new 350 room hotel and building heights not in conformance to Coronado’s 40’ building height standard. It calls for major redevelopment of the Landing on First Street and more that would change the balance between that residential part of Coronado and existing commercial space.

The Coronado Library has the draft Port Proposed Master plan in reference for any citizen to review. You can also go online: development/integrated-planning-port-master-plan update. (click on the box: Review the Master Plan Update.) Coronado Planning District 10 is on pages 229-239.

The City of Coronado and the Coronado Chamber of Commerce are hosting a meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, July 15. at the Coronado Community Center’s Nautilus Room, 1845 Strand Way, for all citizens to come and hear more details and get information from Port staff. The City Manager has stated that any citizen will have the opportunity to give public input.

This is a critical meeting to give input and ask questions. Coronado citizens rose up 38 years ago and made their voices heard the last time the Port updated its Bayfront plan. The Port and Coronado worked together to revise the proposed plan at that time and what you see now on the Tidelands is the result of that work: open space and a retail development that recognizes it is apart of a residential community.

July 31 is the port deadline for any citizen written input.
