Civil Discourse is the New Years’ Gift our community and each of us needs.
Labels, ridicule, slander and verbal attacks disrespect others. Combative, fractious public and personal conversation has almost become the norm. Relationships are strained as a result. Our beloved community is harmed.
Civility will not rob us of our personal views. It costs nothing; it is respectful and kind and it allows us to be comfortable and civil toward one another. Its opposite, incivility, happens each time we disrespect others with our speech. When we deny another person dignity and respect; it is not the other person that suffers the most. We lose our own personal dignity and humanity.
Wouldn’t it be great to practice a resolution for civil discourse in 2022?
Respectfully and with all good wishes for a civil, healthy, happy New Year!
