Summer in Coronado is synonymous with good weather, lots of activities and great parties! The Coronado MainStreet Board of Directors recently hosted the 28th annual Garden Party at the beautiful home and gardens of the Garza Castro Family at 708 A Avenue. We thank them for their generous and helpful role in hosting our Coronado friends, supporters and businesses to raise funds for MainStreet’s Garden and economic development activities.

The Hotel del Coronado was once again a major sponsor of the Party and their generous equipment donation was most appreciated. They are true partners in MainStreet’s mission “to revitalize Coronado’s downtown through preservation and beautification for the benefit of our entire community.”

Other essential partners in hosting the Party include the friendly staff from Chase Bank as bartenders. Guests were serenaded by music from The Sophisticats. Georgia Ellis provided the centerpieces and Coronado Brewing Company donated a variety of their award-winning beers.

Delicious appetizers were provided by chefs and staff from Miguels, The Brigantine, Leroy’s, Mootime, and Boney’s Bayside Market. New this year, we met chef Billy from Tartine, the staff from The Henry and Botko’s artisan made plant-based food. Café 1134, Bluewater Boathouse, Peohe’s, Robbins’ Rum Cakes, Clayton’s Bakery & Bistro, Island Pasta, Poke 123, Saiko Sushi, Crown Bistro, Spiro’s Gyros, Il Fornaio and Tyler’s Cookies all provided their mouth-watering specialties. Helping pass were Paloma and Genevieve.

Our silent auction contained over 84 items which were provided by our generous downtown merchants collected by Board Members and new Assistant Director Mariah Rowden. Our merchants receive a staggering amount of donation requests throughout the year and they support as many causes as they can. It is in this spirit that Coronado MainStreet remains a proud sponsor of “Shop Coronado First.” We are committed to supporting our businesses the way they support us. We hope that you will think about shopping & dining in Coronado first and join us in keeping Coronado healthy and vibrant.

Thanks also to Paul Swerdlove of Coronado Enterprises, EDCO Disposal Company, David Anderson of Anderson Properties, Edith Salas of Salas Properties and Stephen and Charlene Rose for their continued financial support of MainStreet.

As with most non-profit organizations, volunteers accomplish most of the work and Coronado MainStreet has many. Our Board of Directors, Chris Ackerman, Robbins Crehore Kelly, Karen Trecartin, Caroline Murray, Georgia Ellis, Cathy Thomas, Eddie Warner, Linn Kovar, Mark Andrews, Jori Fentiman, Adrienne Kraus, Denise Goodman, Frances MacCartee, Anthony Pascale and Kathy Byrne, along with their families, all pitch in. Thanks also to MainStreet Executive Director Rita Sarich, husband Darrell and daughter Amanda for their efforts.

We look forward to a productive, blooming year and thank the community and the City of Coronado for their support. Please thank a Coronado merchant or restaurant soon and enjoy our beautiful downtown and gardens all year long.
