A recent Facebook message revealed an unknown author’s article. It struck a chord in me and I hope in you. The article highlighted the fact that though we are all in the same pandemic storm, we are not all in the same boat.

That truth came to me literally many years ago while cruising along the Massachusetts coast in a 16 foot Boston Whaler boat. From out of nowhere a squall-like downpour struck, forcing us to bail the boat and head for land. Suddenly, to our port side, a 60 foot cabin cruiser was gliding down a rogue wave. I swore I heard music playing above the din as the yacht passed, and I know I saw someone below deck swigging a beer. Alas, we were in the same storm, but very different boats!

Likewise, in our seemingly never ending pandemic we are all in the same storm, but different ‘boats’. In the extreme, some folks worry about where their next meal is coming from, while others concern themselves about which restaurant will provide the gourmet meal for take-out.

Come to think of it, it was always thus. We have the “Haves,” and the “Have Nots,” and all those in-between.
