The community’s proposal “To Create Open Space for All Californians to Enjoy – A Coronado Bayfront Park Dedicated to former California State Senator James R. Mills” is slated to be heard at the Nov. 2, 2021 City Council meeting.

This proposal seeks to preserve, for public use, a valuable parcel of waterfront property which the Port of San Diego holds in trust for the public. A primary goal of the Port is to “Protect opportunities for public access and parks on the waterfront for all Californians and visitors to enjoy.” (Port Master Plan Update-PMPU).

Further, this proposal aligns with California Coastal Act – Section 30253 (5) – Minimization of Adverse Impacts: “Where appropriate, protect special communities and neighborhoods that, because of their unique characteristics, are popular visitor destination points for recreational uses.”

We urge City Council’s support in creating a welcoming, environmentally beneficial and sustainable open space park - accessible to all - to be enjoyed now and for generations to come.

Respectfully
