Re “Cross-Border Pollution Creating Coastal Rift”

As mayor of Imperial Beach, I need to acknowledge the important contribution from the city of Coronado and its residents in the effort to stop cross-border pollution.

In a May 28 radio interview, my frustration with the lack of progress caused me to lash out at some of our partners. While our cities have pursued different tactics, the city of Coronado is following the course it believes will yield the best results. I sincerely apologize for my comments and look forward to our collaborative effort to improve water quality for all residents of San Diego County.

This is a time when all jurisdictions in San Diego County and the government of Mexico need to work together to stop the flow of toxic sewage across the border.

I look forward to continuing to work with Coronado to protect our beautiful beaches.
