My thanks to the over 250 people who attended the Monday, July 15, meeting with the Port of San Diego (“the Port”) staff members responsible for drafting the Proposed Master Plan Update (PMPU). The PMPU calls for a redevelopment of the Old Ferry Landing and 350 new hotel rooms for Coronado. It is the combined efforts of all the residents of Coronado who will make a difference to our future. The outcome of that meeting and the subsequent discussion of the PMPU at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 16, demonstrated widespread opposition to the current Proposed Master Plan Update

Port staffers made an excellent presentation and gave all attendees the opportunity to ask questions and make their concerns known. Those concerns however, have no impact unless they are made in writing and sent to the Port of San Diego Planning. Emails and letters must be received by the Port of San Diego no later than July 31.

To that end, a group of concerned Coronado citizens has formed the committee savecoronado.com. We have drafted a letter incorporating many of the concerns voiced at the July 15 meeting. We are attempting to motivate as many Coronado citizens as possible to make their voices heard. The letter we drafted can be found as an insert in today’s Eagle, and may be signed and mailed to the following address: Port of San Diego, Attention: Planning Department, 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101-1128. For those of you who are interested in contacting the Port of San Diego via email, a copy of this letter may also be found online at: www.savecoronado.com and may be forwarded to the following email address: pmpu@portofsandiego.org

Please take time right now to voice your concerns about the significant changes currently being proposed to our wonderful and unique village. We owe it to future generations of Coronado residents to protect the heritage that has been left to us. Save Coronado!
