I was pleased to read Ms. Prewitt’s emotional response to my recent letter in the Coronado Eagle & Journal. I believe that stimulating political discourse is critical to the health of our nation, but having been an old-school attorney, I tend to base my arguments on facts, rather than emotion. Every position taken in my previous letter is supported by facts, which I will later share in this letter.

I think that it would be valuable for all of us to drop our remotes, get off the couch, and stop taking as gospel, everything the talking heads on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, etc. spew at us, daily. The miracle of the internet allows us to comprehensively research virtually everything that we are told by the news organizations and the politicians from all parties. One internet caveat…only rely on legitimate information and data sources!

For example, if I am told that “The rich don’t pay their fair share of taxes!” I can Google “percentage of taxes paid” and you will find many “hits” including www.wsj.com/articles/top-20-of-earners-pay-84-of-income-tax-1428674384. If, after reading this article, you still believe that the rich do not pay their fair share of taxes and/or that the middle class pay most of the taxes, then emotion is overcoming your reason. I invite you to call any Democrat Party field office and ask them to defend the position that the rich don’t pay their fair of taxes and you will hear a myriad of talking points, but not one legitimate statistic. I know this, because I have done it!

When I said that we are in the top ten of nations with the highest debt to GDP ratio, you will see this documented at: https://learn.stashinvest.com/10-countries-with-largest-debt-to-gdp. If, after looking at these statistics, you still feel that, as most Liberal politicians feel, that “We are the richest country in the world, and there is no reason why we can’t _______(fill in the blank),” then emotion is overcoming your reason.

As for the discussion regarding “asylum,” I invite you to look at: www.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/05/01/what-does-mean-seek-asylum-united-states/564262021 (asylum definition), and then consider: https:www.investors.com/politics/editorials/non-citizens-uninsured-welfare-census-data (percentage of non-citizens on welfare). Do you think that everyone in the caravan qualifies for asylum, and notwithstanding and considering our rising debt, how do we fund the current and future masses that the left is encouraging to invade our country?

I know many Liberal voters and I know them all to be well-meaning people. Unfortunately, I believe that they are mislead by the Democrat/Liberal/Progressive (D/L/P) politicians. I once served on a ship that’s motto was “Acta Non Verba” or Actions not Words. I invite you to look at: www.heritage.org/marriage-and-family/commentary/the-war-poverty-50-years-failure, and www.beyondblackwhite.com/freedom-enough-moynihan-report-america-struggle-black-family-life-from-lbj-obama-book-review/ to see how D/L/P policies have failed our country, especially Black America. I thus standby the last paragraph of my previous letter.

I do agree with one of Ms. Prewitt’s statements. President Trump “has not been honest with us”…”If you like your insurance plan, you can keep it, Period!...If you like your doctor, you can keep him, Period!”…Oops, wrong potus, sorry for the confusion! Happy holidays!
