Dr. John Morton recently revealed here that our highest quality evidence, the randomized controlled trial, has consistently shown in reputable peer-reviewed medical journals over many years that masks do not reduce the spread of viral respiratory illnesses. One person responding to Dr. Morton could not find the study on the CDC website, and implied that he must be making things up. Another was able to find the study and declared that the authors had failed to analyze the data appropriately.

One could argue that all these studies were flawed, but wouldn’t doing so be the essence of the “anti-science” that “mask-deniers” are accused of?

Dr. Anthony Fauci was undoubtedly aware that masks were useless when he said in an interview at the beginning of the pandemic that masks should not be worn during viral outbreaks. Public health authorities abruptly changed their advice about face coverings after that interview, despite the lack of any new evidence indicating that the highest quality prior studies were wrong.

It may seem unfathomable that our government’s response to COVID, which has destroyed our economy and caused untold misery for millions, could have been wrong.

But it would hardly be unprecedented. In 2003, we were told it was certain Iraq had WMDs and that the war was absolutely necessary. There were no WMDs. Thousands of Americans were killed/wounded, families were shattered forever, and trillions were borrowed that our children will have to repay. Rather than solely relying on authorities, do your own research. Masks don’t work!

The author states: "Another was able to find the study and declared that the authors had failed to analyze the data appropriately. One could argue that all these studies were flawed, but wouldn’t doing so be the essence of the “anti-science” that “mask-deniers” are accused of?"

This is not an accurate statement. I was the author of the letter that discussed the studies. I never said the studies were inaccurate. The studies were accurate - it was only the final conclusion (masks don't work), that I disagreed with. But leaving my opinion out of it, here are the quotes from the studies themselves - do they say masks work or not? You can decide for yourself: Study 1: “We found that adherence to mask use significantly reduced the risk for ILI-associated infection (Influenza-like Illness),…” It concluded, “Adherence to mask use was associated with a significantly reduced risk of ILI-associated infection.”

Study 2: “We observed significant reductions in ILI during weeks 4–6 in the mask and hand hygiene group, compared with the control group… “
