A recent Fox News report by Emma Colton published on Aug. 28, 2021, said, “A California school district is investigating a teacher after she posted a video admitting she encouraged her students to pledge allegiance to a gay pride flag after she removed the American flag from her classroom.»
The teacher explained she chose to remove the American flag during the pandemic “...because it [the flag] made me uncomfortable.”
What’s the pandemic have to do with her perceived “discomfort” with the American flag? Forgive me for going out on a limb, but could it be she has bigger issues with our nation, not just with our flag? By the way, a photo of her classroom shows a prominently-displayed gay pride banner, perhaps an homage left upon the wall following Gay Pride Month this past June, or perhaps it’s a permanent fixture, “not that there’s anything wrong with that,” to quote a little Seinfeld lingo, if you’ll permit me to at least try to
inject a little humor into this rather serious situation. (Sigh.)
The school district couldn’t publicly comment on their ongoing internal inquiry into the teacher’s actions, but did say it will be “taking action,” whatever that may be. Suggestion: at the very least, those students who choose to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance should have an American flag at the front of their classroom to which to face! Bring back “Old Glory” to that classroom, and may she forever fly, God willing.
