We all know that we are a nation built on individual effort. Capitalism is our mantra. Entrepreneurship is our vehicle. So, let’s fight socialism. Or so says our President and his minions.

None of this stuff of giving out benefits or jobs to some, with money taken from others. None of this public ownership of businesses, services and opportunities. None of this relying on the government. But wait! We do rely on the government.

What things will, in the ranting of the President, have to go because they are manifestations of socialism. Let’s name a few: the armed forces; Tri-Care for life, VA benefits, roads, parks, and bridges; police, firefighters and life guards; farm subsidies; Social Security; Medicare; public utilities; public education; air traffic control; the courts; the judicial system; the Center for Disease Control; salaries of elected officials (including the President); national parks; the Border Patrol; safe water, sewers and storm drains. And much, much more.

Yes, all of these fit the definition of socialism. The truth is that socialism is woven inextricably into the American fabric. There is no “there” there. There is no boogey man.

Socialism seems to be ok when it benefits the “haves” and not ok when it benefits the “have-nots.”

The boogey man of recent ravings was the dreaded caravan. Remember, it was bring rapists and murderers. Before we surrender to the new ravings of the con man in the White House, let’s think it through.

We can do better. We must do better.
