Coronado is a special place to live for many reasons and David Axelson’s sports reporting over the past 22 years is a great example of what makes this community unique. While many smaller towns cannot sustain a local newspaper with high-quality, positive reporting, the Eagle-Journal and writers like David have me looking forward to the paper every Wednesday.

I agree with David that high school sports are the final bastion of amateur athletics and by following and supporting our teams we have a unified platform that everyone can support (unique in today’s political and pro sports environment). I have always been impressed with David’s ability to gather detailed information from all the high school teams, recognize as many athletes by name as possible, highlight the positive aspects of every game, and provide historical perspective on the different teams he has observed over the years. David’s retirement is a loss for our community but I am thankful and honored to have been an avid reader and fan of yours over the years!
