There is a hidden gem at the Coronado Library, whom many of you may not know, named Candice Hooper. She is the Exhibits, Archives & Special Collections Library Assistant III and has dedicated the past 32 years to the Library, sharing her ingenuity and creative skills to produce interesting and informative displays in the Library’s main hallway for the enjoyment and edification of its visitors.
The current display, celebrating the 100th year of Soroptimist International, is no exception. For those not yet familiar with it, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organization working to provide women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Our community organization, Soroptimist International of Coronado, will celebrate 75 years on Oct. 25, 2022.
Ms. Hooper provided immeasurable support working throughout the summer with a team of current and former members of Soroptimist International of Coronado. Together they sorted through archived photographs and newspaper articles, as well as other memorabilia, to select representative items for the display now available for viewing.
Without question, it would not have been possible to pull off this feat without Ms. Hooper’s amazing artistic and story-telling ability, as well as her decades of experience producing and installing displays of special collections. She is truly a treasure!
We sincerely appreciate the dedication and support of Ms. Hooper and her associate Ms. Kelly Andrade, Special Collections Librarian, and thank them sincerely for ensuring the Soroptimist International display is of the highest caliber.
The display will be available for viewing until Nov. 14, 2021. We hope the Coronado community will stop by and check out the amazing work of this incredible organization.
