“The pen is mightier than the sword.” Thomas Paine, 1776 Common Sense

This letter is written in response to Mr. Kelly’s commentaries in the Coronado Eagle and Journal which I have read for several months. Mr. Kelly’s political affiliation appears to be Radical Right Conservative Republican. Her are my responses. First, the Mueller Report was important because our nation’s moral base must be maintained to keep a strong democracy. Second, the Statue of Liberty’s Torch represents that our country’s ideology is to welcome new immigrants.

Kelly believes that the Democratic Party is not working for social justice. The Democratic Party and liberal Republican’s are the backbone of a healthy democracy. These patriotic Americans are working for social justice for the poor, middle class, the elderly and disabled. The Democratic Party is also working for gun control, climate change, excellent education, affordable housing, health care, prison reform and welfare reform. According to my most recent research, there are approximately 500 homeless families in San Diego and 4000 people lacking adequate nutrition.

I would like to recommend some non-bias books for research. First, “Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis,” by Harvard Professor Robert Putnam who argues that our children are suffering from draconian cuts and pleas for just laws to keep our children out of poverty. Second, “Economics in Wonderland,” by William Reich, former Secretary of Labor during the Clinton Administration who argues that there are flaws in Trump’s Agenda and also argues for his impeachment.

In conclusion, the radical right conservative movement is dangerous to the country. The radical right wants to end government entitlements and dismantle social programs, which has caused homelessness and poverty. This argument is justified on the argument that the poor are lazy, immoral and do not want to work. They do not want free health care for all funded by the government. There is also the argument to increase the age of receiving Social Security to 70. Supporting Trump is supporting a president who has a history of lies and corruption.

In contrast the valiant Democratic Party and liberal Republicans are working hard to pass just laws which provide the resources people require to be healthy. They are fulfilling their patriotic duty of Americans who are holding public office. I hope that Kelly can see that the first responsibility of our country is our children.

Coronado is a town of many leaders, many of them are wise people who are highly educated to make good decisions on foreign policy. Let us, as a community work, to save our nation from the deep poverty our children suffer. An educated country can make the nation the idealist society that our founders fought for in the American Revolutionary War. As Thomas Paine argued in Commonsense, I plea with Americans to write and fight for social justice.
