The U.S. Womens Soccer Team, presently vying for another World Cup, has suddenly lost some fans over their 13-0 shellacking of Thailand. I was turned off by the wild juvenile celebration of the Americans at each goal registered over the overmatched Thai team. Was this the first rodeo for our U.S. team?

Little Leaguers, with their ‘mercy rule’ must have winced at this unsporting spectacle. Commenting on the travesty, the best the U.S. Womens coach could come up with was, “If this were the Mens soccer team would we be having this conversation?” Yes coach, we would be having this conversation because poor sportsmanship, like good sportsmanship is gender free.

A sensible solution would have been to “send in the subs” – the clowns were already there sitting on the bench as alleged coaches. The U.S. Womens Team has enlarged their stature greatly over the years. The trouble is they have not grown up. Now I have another reason not to watch soccer.
