I am a Margarita resident and use the Sixth and Pomona crosswalk often. I doubt that many residents of the area would cross to Cronan Park to use a crosswalk as the City Council proposed last week. The post box is the destination in the park; under the Torrey Pine, which anchors the park, there is an abundance of pine needles, tree sap and whitewash from nesting Great Blue Herons.

A solution for the current crosswalk would be to install a pedestrian-activated light system similar to the roundabout at Seventh, Adella Avenue, and Pomona and Fifth and Glorietta. Also, a right turn lane could put in, which would force drivers slow before turning. Pedestrian crossings also have lights embedded in the street which are pedestrian-activated; they would be more expensive, but highly visible.
