Yvonne Marcus Barnum

Yvonne Laura Narciso Marcus Barnum of Coronado passed away in Carlsbad on June 20, 2021, with her daughter by her side. She was 75.

Yvonne was born at North Island NAS as the middle child of three to U.S. Navy Officer Cecil Narciso and mother, Yvette, (both now deceased). Yvonne grew up in Chula Vista and National City, ultimately graduating from Vista High School in 1963. She then attended Woodbury College in L. A. where she met and married William Marcus of New York in 1967. They moved to Olean, New York in 1970 where her only child and joy of her life, Heather Marcus Thiele, was born in 1971. She lived in New York and Connecticut before divorcing in 1977 and returned to the San Diego area. In 1983, Yvonne re-married the late Lewis Barnum III, with whom she shared 29 years of adventures. They both loved traveling the world and spending time with friends at concerts at the park and the yacht club. Yvonne especially enjoyed bringing their families together over a home cooked meal.

After moving back to San Diego County and settling in Coronado, Yvonne started as a bookkeeper at Coronado Shores Company in 1979. Receiving her real estate license in 1981, she became a rental agent in The Shores property management business. In 1987, Yvonne was promoted to General Manager of the leasing division. After 22 years of service, she was named company president. She later became co-owner of the Coronado Shores Company, and after 37 years at The Shores she sold the business and retired in Palm Desert.

Always a supporter of women’s rights and issues, Yvonne was a member of Soroptimist International in Coronado and was also actively involved in community and civic affairs. She was a dedicated professional and mentor to many. Yvonne had many creative talents that shown brightly through her love of fashion, interior design, and cooking; most recently, writing and publishing her life story.

Yvonne is survived by her daughter Heather Marcus (Tim) Thiele; her grandchildren Trevor and Justin of Carlsbad; brothers Bob Narciso of Battle Ground, Washington and John Narciso of Del Mar; and extended family Kirby, Molly, Beau and Brooke Barnum.

Yvonne was loved and admired by many and will be deeply missed.
