Wilbur Washington Walker, 81, died peacefully at home, with family by his side Feb. 3, 2020, in San Diego, California.
He was born Dec. 23, 1938, West Point, Virginia. He was the son of Wilbur L. Walker and Beatrice Wright Walker.
Wilbur enlisted in the US Navy in 1962. He attended boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois (the Quarterdeck of the Navy). During his enlistment, while in Pensacola, Florida, he met Faye Wilson. They married in Pensacola, Nov. 13, 1965 and moved to Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada.
Wilbur had five deployments during his Navy career. Wilbur and Faye moved to San Diego, settling in Coronado in 1971, where they made a home and raised a family. Wilbur and Faye had two sons, Dennis and Kevin Walker. Wilbur was an active participant in the Imperial Beach Fleet Reserve No. 289, the Legion and VFW.
Wilbur is survived by his wife Faye of 54 years; his son Dennis (Julie) of Portland, Oregon and son, Kevin of San Diego; his grandson Justin Walker of Beaverton, Oregon; his brother, Welford (Helene) of Hyatts Ville, Maryland; step brothers Charles (Rita) Jackson and Junior Jackson, both of West Point, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services for Wilbur will be on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. a Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, followed by a celebration of life and FRA ritual, promptly at 2:30 p.m. a the Branch home, 659 Silver Strand Boulevard, Imperial Beach. Reception to follow.
