Phyllis Evans O’Toole Mather suffered a stroke Monday, Oct. 1 and died peacefully, at home, on Oct. 4, 2018.

Everyone Phyllis Mather met, had the pleasure of being touched in a very special way. She had the unique ability to make everyone feel like they were most important .

A Rosary was held Oct. 16, 2018 , at Sacred Heart Church followed by a Mass of Resurrection on Oct. 17. The family was surprised by the number of people who attended the Internment at Holy Cross cemetery. It was a beautiful, sunny day, there were no tears. In a humorous twist, Phyllis appeared to resist when the casket failed to descend into the grave! Technical difficulty resolved, many friends of Mexican heritage, sang La Golondrina in Spanish as the casket was lowered into the earth. Each person in attendance was invited to drop a white rose into the grave and a handful of dirt. The graveside service was officiated by Fr. Mike Murphy and Rev. Stephen J. Mather.

At the time of the services the family stated that they would have a party at a future date to celebrate Phyllis’ life and share stories. The time has now come. Please join them April 9, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the family home, 365 Glorietta Place. The theme of the party will be “grab and go.” In an effort to dispose of Phyllis’ many treasures, we will ask each of her friends to pick something to remember her by. We look forward to seeing you on April 9!

Oh, by the way, the date of the party happens to be the anniversary of the birth of Lee Mather, Phyllis’ husband of 56 years. In a nod to Lee, fried chicken will be included on the menu!
