Peter Henry Hill Dunn Jr

Peter Henry Hill Dunn Jr was born March 7, 1925 in Bremerton, Washington to Lt. Peter Henry Hill Dunn and Leila Scott Dunn of Washington DC. He died peacefully at his home in Coronado on Jan. 9, 2021. He was 95 years old.

A native of Washington DC, he held direct descent from Philip Livingston, signer of the Declaration of Independence and Robert Livingston who administered the Presidential oath to President Washington. He is also directly descended from Daniel Carroll, brother of John Carroll, first Bishop of the Colonies.

Peter was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Isabella Murray Dunn, a long time resident of Coronado, who passed on Sept. 4, 2017. Peter is survived by his five children, Anne D Comphel, Maris D Yaple, Paul WareDunn, Michael C Dunn and Theresa Schueller, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Peter graduated from the Naval Academy in June of 1946. His class of 1947 was commissioned in a record of 34 months. He was a naval aviator serving in Korea as a night qualified all weather carrier pilot. Launching from six different carriers in his navel career. After leaving the Navy he worked in the electronics industry and in the San Mateo County’s Assessor’s Office.

He retired in Coronado in Isabella’s family home which had been purchased by Isabella’s grandmother Belle Stewart Reynolds in 1923. His mother Leila Scott Dunn live a block away at 1238 Churchill Place until her death in 2005. He spent 19 years of his retirement helping his mother. She passed a few months before her 100th birthday.

He still found time for fun in golf, traveling and entertaining during his 35 years of retirement. He was a great story teller and loved to pass on his family history.

Peter and Isabella will have a Mass of Resurrection, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 655 C Avenue, June 26 at 11 a.m. with a reception at 1111 Loma Ave 3 to 6 p.m. The interment is at Christ Church Memorial Garden will be private family only.
