Michael Sean Dolan, cherished friend, brother, uncle and fiancé who had a zest for life with a seize-the-day attitude, passed away on March 21, 2019, after an all-out battle with cancer.

An entrepreneur and a man of many talents who traveled the world, his business specialized in entertainment, promotions and event planning. At various times in his life he was also disc jockey on Smooth Jazz FM 98.1 in San Diego, a professional chauffeur, and a bartender at Peohe’s and at the Pineapple Grill in Maui.

Born in Japan and raised in the close-knit community of Simi Valley where Mike made many, cherished, life-long friends, Mike was a graduate of SDSU and a dedicated Aztec basketball and football booster. He was a long-standing season ticket holder and a relentless recruiter of new fans for the teams.

He excelled at looking to the brighter side of life and loved meeting people and experiencing diverse cultures. Outgoing and funny, Mike and had a wonderful talent for spinning brief meetings into lasting impressions. He delighted in bestowing special gifts, ranging from clever, flattering nicknames for friends or acquaintances to the perfect candy treat to an unsuspecting stranger.

Mike was a resident of Coronado for over three decades. After a comical series of out-of-sync sightings and near-miss meetings arranged by interconnected mutual friends, he finally met the love of his life. Completely by chance, Mike moved across the street from the woman his friends had wanted him to meet, Coronado native Jill Grady. Jill and Mike soon embarked on a grand 15-year romantic adventure, inseparable through good times and bad.

Mike was a kind and generous soul who loved animals. Jill and Mike could be seen regularly walking Noa, their white Siberian husky around town. Mike had a big heart and a passion for lending a helping hand. He frequently coached friends’ kids in their quest to play a sport and also helped out at charity events. He volunteered for numerous causes each year, including the Susan G. Komen Foundation, supported animal rescue causes, became a proud multi-gallon blood-donor, and helped out regularly at scores of charity races.

One of the most cherished roles in his life was as a father figure and mentor to Brittany Barraza of Coronado, now residing in Houston, Texas. He loved her dearly and was devoted to her from the day she was born. Mike played a very important, central role in her life.

He is survived by his fiancée, Jill Grady; siblings Patrick (Kim) Dolan of Sacramento and Kerrie (Steve) Gittleman of Agoura Hills, California; and nieces Amanda Penny and Amy Walton and nephews Shawn Gittleman and Sam Gittleman; and his beloved Brittany Barraza of Houston.

A celebration of life will be held on what would have been his 61st birthday, Monday, April 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center Nautilus Room, 1845 Strand Way, Coronado.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made to the Moores UCSD Cancer Center.
