Johnny “Fat Rat” Falletta, age 73, passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2018. His death followed years of Alzheimer’s and a severe stroke in 2013. Johnny was truly a wonderful man who loved his family and community more than they could ever know.

Johnny was born in Coronado on July 11, 1945 to John and Bea Falletta. His mother, Bea, was also born in Coronado which made Johnny a true Coronado native who came from the quieter time in Coronado history. Most of his immediate family, including Bea, still reside in Coronado. He was a graduate of Coronado High School, class of 1964 and was always proud that his three children followed in graduating from the same Coronado family tradition.

Growing up on the Island and living life by the sea gave Johnny a love for all things ocean. He was a surfer, a fisherman, body boarder, scuba diver, beach walker, clam digger, sunset beach cycler and in later life developed a true love for sailing. His love of the beach and ocean opened his mind to a spirituality of love, kindness and friendship.

Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Leita; daughter Michele, son Andrew; two grandchildren, Austin and Avery Dozier; his most beloved mother Bea Falletta; brother Tony (Janet), sister Patricia (Mike). Preceding him in death is Johnny’s father, “Papa” John Falletta and Johnny’s youngest son Peter “Pete” Falletta. He also loved his three surviving nieces Gina, Natalie and Lisa Falletta.

A private family burial at sea will take place in the near future.
