John B. McKinney II

John B. McKinny II, at 66 years of age, passed away on June 15, 2020, after a brief struggle with cancer.

John was born in Downey, California in 1953, but after several moves, spent the lion’s share of his childhood growing up in Coronado. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1971 and received his BS degree from San Diego State. Some might remember his “cruises” around Coronado during his high school days in his 1960 taxi-cab-yellow Austin Healy Bug-eye Sprite.

John was always good with numbers and during his career with Service Corporation International (SCI), based in Houston, he advanced to vice president of finance.

Shortly after his mother passed away in 2003, John retired, left Houston and moved back to Coronado to help take care of his father. He was always willing to do whatever it took to help someone out.

In addition to his stellar career, John had many life-long friends, near and far, who always enjoyed his company, his parties or even just a telephone conversation. People who knew John could always see the friendly glint in his eyes despite his sometimes stern appearance.

John was predeceased by his parents, Helen L. and John B. McKinney. He is survived by his siblings, Linda McKinney and Tom (Nancy) McKinney, as well as loving nieces, nephews and great nephew.

Please remember John in your thoughts and prayers. No services were desired.
