James Douglas “Doug” Andersen passed away Monday, July 8, 2019, after a long illness. He was 58 years old.

Doug was born and raised in Coronado, and was the youngest child of John “Jack” Martin and Rosemary Barnes Andersen. After graduating from college, Doug went to work for the Boeing Company in Seattle, where he excelled as an electrical systems engineer, winning numerous awards and honors. Always an innovator, Doug designed novel test equipment that would improve aircraft electrical system reliability and lower operating costs. When Boeing balked at the idea of incorporating his technology into their program, he created his own test equipment company which was later purchased by BFGoodrich, a Boeing supplier. They were so impressed by Doug’s innovative safety technology that it is presently incorporated into every Boeing jet.

Doug moved back to Coronado in 1987, and bought into the Coronado Golf Course restaurant concession, helping to develop it from a hamburger stand to a full service restaurant.

Doug is survived by his wife; children Toren and Berit; sisters Mary Sue and Jennifer and brother John.
