Elaine passed away on Jan. 22, 2019 at her home in Coronado, where she has lived for 30 years. The cause of death was heart failure. She had been ill for some time with other complications.

Elaine was an active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Coronado, working with their quilting group and gardening. She created the topiary angel that graced the front of the church for years. She was proud of the fact that the angel once earned the “Spot of Beauty” recognition from the Bridge and Bay Garden Club. She was an enthusiastic sewer, creating art and garments with knitting and embroidery.

She enjoyed visits to Hawaii, and created several items of Hawaiian hand quilting. Much as she liked Hawaii, she was always happy to return to Coronado.

Elaine was born on Long Island, New York. Her family was displaced from their home in Queens by the construction of New York International Airport (now JFK), and the family moved to Baldwin, New York She was a graduate of Baldwin High School, class of ’49. She reunited with her childhood paperboy and sweetheart, Donald Seidenspinner, and they married and moved to Massapequa Park, New York, where they raised their family.

Elaine loved to dance, and for several years taught tap dancing in Massapequa. She and Donald moved to Coronado in 1989.

Everyone enjoyed Elaine’s bright smile and good humor.

She is survived by Donald, her loving husband of 68 years; their three children Donald, David (Mona) and Elizabeth (Bruce); and cousin Helen Catlin of Arizona.

A celebration of life was held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Coronado.
