Bill Lunt

Captain Bill Lunt peacefully passed away Sept. 19, 2020.

Bill retired from American Airlines, Dec. 31, 1980 after a 33 year career. Bill earned his first aviation license through the Civil Air Patrol program while at Slippery Rock State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. In June of 1942, he interrupted his formal education to join the Army Air Corps. By the summer of 1944 he was flying as a B-24 commander in the European Theater, where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and five Air medals. Bill was recalled to active duty with a Troop Carrier Group during the Korean conflict. He joined American with an already impressive flying career.

Toward the end of World War II, Bill met and married Dorothy Chadwick, an Army Air Corps Nurse. Dorothy was the love of his life and they were married for 73 years. Dorothy passed away two years ago. Bill and Dorothy had been long time residents of Coronado.

Bill is survived by daughter Julianna (Bob) Therrien of Mission Beach, son Chad (Claudia) Lunt of Coronado, and daughter Patricia (Gavin) Mckenzie of Mansfield, Texas; as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
