A week ago in this space, my prediction of the NBA Finals series between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors splitting the first two games, proved to be accurate. That was before injuries to the Warriors, and to be fair the Raptors as well, started to dominate the series. The Warriors were without shooting guard Klay Thompson in the pivotal, at least to this point, Game Three, which the Warriors lost at home 123-109, despite 47 points from Stephen Curry.

Monday night with the Warriors trailing in the series 3-1, they lost Kevin Durant to an Achilles Tendon injury, after he fought to return from a calf injury in time to attempt to help the team win their third straight title. Starting center Kevon Looney re-injured his rib cage Monday and other players were banged up as well.

However, the Warriors pulled off an improbable 106-105 victory Monday to force Game Six at Oracle Arena. The question at this point is if the Warriors led by Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green can rally mentally and physically to extend the series. Thursday night’s last-ever game at Oracle Arena will bring an added element of drama to the proceedings. Quick prediction, Golden State will prevail in Game 6, but beating a very good Raptors team in Game 7 while the Warriors are short-handed and banged up, is a daunting challenge. Healthy, the Warriors are a supremely talented club. But with a diminished Warriors lineup, Toronto should win Game 7 at home, of course barring any additional injuries.
