Islander Girls Volleyball Head Coach Adeile Ahmu provides an overview of her team’s past week of competition and a look forward to this week. “Tuesday, Oct. 8, we wrapped up Round One of Eastern League play against High Tech High San Diego with a loss in three games. The Lady Islanders took another loss against the Mission Bay Buccaneers Thursday.
In the Field Level Tournament, hosted by Westview High school last weekend, we competed again Mission Vista and Otay Ranch and took two losses. Then we ended the evening against Apache Junction with a win, enabling the Lady Islanders to end a tough losing streak.
Saturday morning the Lady Islanders headed to Canyon Crest Academy to play Mar Vista, earning a win and advancing us into the winners bracket of the Sapphire Division. Taking on Olympian, Coronado fell short with a loss in two sets to the Eagles. I believe our team has faced some challenges, but they are definitely playing with all their heart. These young women work hard every day and their efforts are definitely shown on the court, but sometimes we beat ourselves with too many unforced errors. It is a continuous battle, and all I ask is they show up, compete, and give it their all on the court.
This week we have a non-conference match against Mar Vista Monday on the road, then following that match, we have two back-to-back home games against Christian Tuesday and University City Thursday.”
