With their match against Vincent Memorial from Calexico postponed from last week to this, the lone competition for the Islander Girls Tennis Team since our last column was a 17-1 victory over Francis Parker. Head Coach Rob Moore’s lineup consisted of Elsa Ostermarker, Tiana French and Sinaia Haskal in the singles spots from No. 1-3. The doubles lineup included Alejandra Gonzalez-Luna/Marla Steel at No. 1; Samantha Russell/Ellie Johnson at No. 2 and Olivia Strong/Kate Perley at No. 3. Coronado’s No. 1 and 2 teams won their three sets by the identical scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-4.

Late in the match, Moore tweaked his lineup and moved Perley from doubles into the No. 1 singles slot, where she played the Parker No. 2 player. Perley got out to a 4-1 lead in the set before losing 7-5. Replacing Perley in the doubles lineup was Lauren Pettit, who partnered with Strong for a 6-4 win over the Parker No. 1 pairing.

This week the Islanders open with Vincent Memorial Monday at home; they travel for a tough match against The Bishop’s School Tuesday; and they begin competition in the Western League Thursday at home when they host Cathedral Catholic at 3:30 p.m.
