Monday, the Islander Boys Golf Team (7-11 overall, 4-5 in the Western League), comprised of Eduardo Maynez, Jake McLaughlin, Easton Phillips, Javier Hernandez, Matt Schnappauf, and Gino Frederick, participated in the first round of the stroke play portion of the City Conference Tournament. A total of 80 golfers were scheduled to compete at the Balboa Golf Club, with the 48 best scores advancing to a second round of stroke play on Day 2. Day 3, the field is cut to the best 16 players, who compete in match play. Those players play down to a single champion by the end of the week.

When reached last week, Head Coach Stuart Gordon thought both of his two top golfers, freshmen McLaughlin and Phillips stood a good chance to advance into the match play portion of the tourney. Next week, Coronado will compete in the CIF Division III Team Playoffs. They are currently ranked No. 4 in the division behind Classical Academy, La Jolla Country Day and Mater Dei.
