The Islander Girls Volleyball Team (16-17 overall) finished their regular season with a 16-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-17 victory over High Tech High. Among the statistical leaders for the Islanders were
Caitlin Kane with 11 Kills, 13 digs and two solo blocks; Liz Hunsaker with five kills, four aces and three solo blocks; Zoe Johnstad with 23 digs; and setter Jenna Tocorzic with 24 assists.
Islander Head Coach Adeile Ahmu added her thoughts on the game and the upcoming CIF Division III Playoffs. “Senior Night started off a little rocky with some unforced offensive errors, but the night quickly made a turn in the second set. Senior Camille Paje and Hunsaker continued to motivate and encourage their team to finish the second set with a 25-23 win over High Tech High. Sophomore setter Tocorzic carried our offense, and she had a total of 24 kills for the night.
“Disciplined defense, which we have been working on with the team, finally paid off with Kane, Maddie Flanagan, Phina Bustos, and Johnstad, sharing a total of 78 digs to keep the Islanders in the game and secure their win over High Tech High. Finishing the regular season and Senior Night with a big win will set the tone for the Playoffs.
