The Coronado Youth Soccer League (CYSL) girls under ten (U10) team participated in the annual La Jolla Recreational All Star Soccer Tournament on Dec 7 and 8. For the second year in a row, the team finished undefeated winning four games en route to the championship. CYSL beat Escondido (5-0), Delmar/Carlsbad Sharks (3-2), Los Angeles Galaxy (5-0), and very tough Pacific Beach team (2-1) in the final.

The team was led by its awesome goalkeeper (Jersey Cunningham) who at times looked like she was an octopus with eight arms and legs, stopping nearly all shots that came her way. She was assisted by the iron curtain defense in front of her, led by Emily “Move or Be Crushed” Albin, Claudia “MVP” Wagner, Rizza “Bionic Leg” Bejar, Makayla “Sorry I Knocked You Down...Again” Kissinger, Kiara “Sorry...My Ball” Hansen, and Chloe “if She Bleeds…Will They Stop the Game” Van den Akker.

The offensive assault was led by Brook “Iron Leg” Proctor (three goals), Eliana “Road Runner” Betances, Claudia Wagner, Emily Albin, Rizza Bejar, Savvy “Rose Lavelle” Arnold all with two goals and finally Aviana “Way Too Fast” Pace with a crucial go ahead goal in the win over the Sharks. Finally, Cora Rae “Thunderstorm Is Coming” Jackson was an absolute monster on the field instilling fear and attacking the ball on all fronts allowing her team to create great scoring opportunities in the championship game.Coached by Chong Hunter and Katie Taylor, it was an outstanding team effort during the entire weekend.
