The Coronado Youth Soccer League (CYSL) Girls 8/9 year old team fought hard at this weekend’s All Star tournament in La Jolla.

They played a strong San Diego Force team from Forrest Ranch in the first game, losing a 3-2 heart breaker. In the second game, Nado faced a much bigger and more physical team from Cardiff. Once again the Nado girls showed toughness and a big heart, earning a 0–0 draw. In their final match, Nado played their best match of the tournament finally earning a win 1-0 against Pacific Youth Soccer team (Mission Bay).

Isabel Emme was the MVP for the weekend scoring two goals in the first game and playing outstanding in the last two games. Violet Shann was the star in the last game scoring the winning goal. Julia Donoughe, Gretel Rinehart, and Grace Russell had several near misses for goals and played extremely well putting constant pressure on the opposing team defenses. Natalie Foster used her lightning speed to save a game tying goal attempt in the last game stopping the ball inches from crossing the goal line. McKinnley Ball was a force to be reckoned with as the “playmaker.” She did a great job in the middle of the field making great passes to her teammates. Led by Clara DiGrazia and Lucy Barbera, the Nado defense was absolutely the best in the entire tournament giving up the fewest goals of eight teams. In addition to having two great defenders, Nado also had the best goal keeper on any team. Alexis Crane had some of the most amazing saves in the tournament and withstood point blank cannon shots without blinking an eye.

The final result was not indicative of how well Nado played, just one goal short of making the finals. It was an overall outstanding effort by these girls.
