Islander Cross Country Head Coach George Green provides pre-season information about his teams. “The Cross Country season starts only two days after the first day of school with the Vaquero Stampede Aug. 24. Can you get in shape in two days? Absolutely not. That’s why we’ve been training since the end of our no-contact period in early June. If you still want to come out for Cross Country this season, our league meets don’t start until Oct. 10, so there’s time to get in shape by then.

“Don’t wait too long, however. If you want to come out, visit our website at IslanderTrack.com. There you’ll find information about how to join and start your training program. If you want to see what we’ve been doing all summer, there’s a link to our training blog that details every workout.

“Even if you’re not an aspiring high school cross country runner, you may want to try some of these workouts yourself. To be on this year’s team, as with all CIF sports, you’ll need to register on the Islander Sports Foundation website at IslanderSportsFoundation.com.

“The Varsity Girls’ team returns juniors Abigail Hundley, Sofia Van Arsdale, Jessica Ehret, and senior Lauren White. Although we lost two varsity runners to graduation, Madden Hundley and Teresa Perez, we gained one of the top frosh runners in the county from our middle school program, Dana Jennings. Also training with us this summer have been Allison White, Anna Youngblood (from the Middle School team), Bryn Bartenstein, Ryan Brophy, and Naomi York.

The Boys’ team includes Cole Mullins, Landon Mullins, Casey Harris, Gio Navarro, Cole Hutcherson, Will Leonard, Conor Youngblood, Tim Shumaker, Micah Arnott, Aiden Baumann, Soren Donahue, Nolan Reuter, and Tim Patrice. These lists are not complete, as not everyone has registered yet.”
