Boys Golf Head Coach Stuart Gordon has been at the helm of the program for five years and the team score the Islanders posted last week against Francis Parker of 196 was the lowest the team has shot during his tenure. Coronado won 196-201 in a match played at Coronado Municipal. “We missed a couple of really short putts,” Gordon said. “We could easily have been below 190.”
Specifically, Easton Phillips shot a 36 as did Tucker Gilmore; Jake McLaughlin shot a 37; Matt Schnappauf shot a 42; Syak Nemer shot a round of 45 and Eduardo Maynez shot a 47.
Three days later, the Islanders played Poway at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo and Coronado won 212-216. Phillips shot a 38; McLaughlin shot 42; Gilmore and Nemer both shot a 43; Schnappauf carded a 46 and Gino Fredrick shot a 47.
The schedule for this week includes a match Monday against Mission Bay; a Tuesday match against Scripps Ranch at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo; a match Wednesday against Poway at Coronado Municipal; and a match Thursday against Olympian at the Colina Park Golf Course. Obviously, Mother Nature may come into play for a portion of that schedule.
