Last week was another successful one for the Coronado Girls Golf Team under the direction of Head Coach Stuart Gordon. The team played three matches, starting with a 233-244 loss to OLP; followed by a 242-258 victory over Cathedral Catholic and then a 222-247 win over Point Loma. During the week, the team differential, meaning the number of strokes on average the five top players are over par, declined to 28.95. That is the seventh best team score in the CIF San Diego Section this season.

The team’s best player, senior Crista Izuzquiza, was competing out of the country last week. “The rest of the team all shot in the 40’s for the week,” said Gordon. “When we lost to OLP, we didn’t have Crista or Mary Damian, who later in the week shot a 36 against Point Loma. Together Crista and Mary combine to knock 20 shots off our team total. Samantha Lorr shot a 43 against Cathedral and Mariella Avanni shot a 44 against Point Loma for one of her best scores. That is a really good score for a freshman. They’re all getting geared up for the CIF Tournament, which is the main thing.”

This week the Islanders host La Jolla at Coronado Municipal Monday, they travel to the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo Wednesday to play Scripps ranch and Thursday they play Torrey Pines at Rancho Santa Fe.
