No. 8 seed Coronado played the No. 1 seeded team from The Bishop’s School last Wednesday and the Knights prevailed 17-7. Islander Head Coach Sean Castillo said of the contest, “Teddy Oliver played well, but we didn’t help him much on defense. Teddy had at least 10 blocks. Among our leading scorers were Calvin Peckham and Matthew Wastilla.”

The CIF is slowly working its way toward a state-wide playoff, which means teams still must be selected for that competition. So Tuesday, Coronado traveled again to La Jolla’s Coggan Family Pool, where they faced Steele Canyon High School. If the Islanders win, they will play a second game Saturday. The Islanders will have to win both matches to advance to the SoCal Boys Regionals, with the First Round to be played Nov. 22 and the Second Round Nov. 23. Two sites will host the SoCal Regionals, Ocean View and Segerstrom High School, which are both located in Santa Ana.
