Between the weather and the postponement of the rest of their game schedule, the Islander Boys Tennis Team (2-4 overall) was able to play only one match last week. That turned out to be a 10-8 loss to Cathedral Catholic. Islander Head Coach Mackenzie White said, “Our No. 1 and No. 2 doubles didn’t lose a set.”

Playing No. 1 doubles for Coronado this match was the combo of Jorge Yanez/Andres de la Lama and they won all three of their sets by the score of 6-2. At No. 2 doubles were Isaac Del Rincon/Mauricio Rivero and they won their sets 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4. The No. 3 doubles team of Evan Thoms/Nathaniel Nelson successfully completed their assignment and defeated their counterparts from Cathedral 6-2. Ethan Ortiz accounted for the other set victory, winning one of his singles sets 6-3. An indication of how close the match was is that Cathedral won 59 games and Coronado won 54. Hopefully the season will pick up at some point for the Islanders.
