Coronado girls’ varsity volleyball team traveled Monday to take on the Marauders of Mira Mesa. In a tightly contested match, the girls fought hard but came up short 3 games to 1. It was a tough loss for the Islanders who stand at 10 – 12 on the season. Freshman setter, Emily Page was a standout for the Islanders with killer serves and great sets for her teammates.

On Thursday, Oct. 7, the girls secured a City Eastern league win over High Tech High. Coronado dropped the first game of the match 20-25, struggling to get in a groove on offense. The Lady Islanders came back strong, winning the next three sets, 25-12, 25-23, and 25-17. Senior outside hitters Allison Wygal and Maddie Flanagan had outstanding offensive performances with numerous kills and finesse points each. Freshman setters Page and Sadie Proctor provided consistent ball control to set up the offense for success. Coronado’s serving is what dominated the match with strong serves from Wygal, Page, Phina Bustos and Marlie Meoni. The entire team put in the effort to go home with the win.
