The Islander Girls Lacrosse Team has been wonderfully inconsistent this season, and despite that fact they are currently 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the Western League. Last week Coronado defeated Westview at home 15-5 and then lost a road contest at Scripps Ranch 14-1.

Islander Head Coach Kirstyn Atkinson, who was a member of two NCAA Championship Lacrosse Teams at Northwestern University said, “We need to learn to adapt a little bit better. What I love about athletics, which is where I learned some of my biggest life lessons, is to handle adversity and to learn to adapt. That is what we need to work on. Last week was definitely very frustrating.”

Taking the good news first, seven Islanders scored in the Westview game, led by four tallies from Kat Green; three from Camden DeMaio; two goals each from Ryan Brophy, Catie Ward and Allie White; and a single goal was scored by Abby Fabiszak. Assists included one each from Ward and White; groundball leaders included Goalie Kendall Chapko with four and three each from DeMaio and Ward. Chapko also had seven saves in goal.

As you might imagine from the Scripps Ranch score, the Islander stats were pretty limited, with their lone goal scored by DeMaio. Chapko was credited with nine saves.

This week Coronado is home to face La Jolla Tuesday and the Islanders return home Thursday night to host Poway. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
