For the first time, the library is offering an incentive program to get people to visit some of the sites and experiences that make summer in Coronado what it is. Sometimes we need a little incentive to get out of the house and do something, even if that something is good for us or fun. For years, the library has been offering prizes for reading over the summer and in a slight twist on that concept, the software used to record reading is being used to award points for exploring the Coronado community.

An interactive component has been added to the Beanstack Tracker, an app the Library started using a few years ago for the Children’s and Teen Summer Reading program. With the Beanstack app, the library is challenging residents and visitors to earn electronic badges while exploring the city. How does it work?

There are two ways to access Beanstack: either through a computer by visiting, or by downloading the app from any app store. Once registered, users go to the Activities Page to discover things to do. The library has included many local treasures as well as many of its own Summer Festival programs and activities around town, everything from Sunday concerts in the park to attending a workshop at the Coronado Historical Association. It also includes some everyday things we might not always do, such as ride the free shuttle, visit the beach or have lunch with a friend.

There are many activities to do and participating in some will enter you in a prize drawing. Don’t worry if you need some help getting Beanstack on your device. Stop by the Reference desk and the librarians will be delighted to assist you.
