As many Coronado residents know, the VFW Post 2422 has been closed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. As a result, the VFW Auxiliary has not been able to generate income to support the many Veterans Programs we have supported over the years. The VFW worked in conjunction with its members to serve Sunday Steak dinners during the Sunday Summer Concert series at Spreckels Park to earn income to support Veterans Programs and organizations. They also made Buddy Poppy Leis that were available for nominal donations. Those opportunities were not currently available to us.
One of the programs they support is the VA Hospital, where coupon books were given to the patients to help them purchase items from the hospital store. Other programs supported are the Veterans Village of San Diego, Children of Veterans, The Salvation Army, Wreaths Across America and various Youth Activities and Scholarship funds, to name a few.
In the absence of those income producing opportunities this year, the VFW is respectfully requesting donations directly from the VFW & Auxiliary members, as well as the Coronado community that may be so inclined to support them. Any donation is greatly appreciated. You can mail your checks payable to VFW Auxiliary Post 2422, and mail them directly to VFW Auxiliary Post 2422, 557 Orange Avenue, Coronado CA 92118.
This year, in conjunction with our Community Outreach Program, the VFW Auxiliary Post 2422 is participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Oct. 3, in San Diego. If you would like to support their team please go to act.alz.org to donate. The team name is VFW Auxiliary Post 2422. They will be walking around Coronado on Saturday Oct. 3, so if you see us, be sure to say hi!
Thank you for your support Coronado!
