Instead of ‘quiet please’ at the library, the 20th annual Summer Festival promises to be music to the ears.

Three award winning musical acts, noted classical performers such as the La Jolla Strings and Coronado based opera star, Diane Alexander, are all part of the lineup for the 20th anniversary.

A series of eight concerts will launch on Saturday, June 8, with local favorites, the Coronado Big Band on the library lawn.

Highlights will include Berkley Hart, winner of the 2019 San Diego Music Award for Best Country Album on June 22 and the Peter Sprague Trio, which picked up San Diego’s 2018 award for best jazz and will be appearing at the library on July 19. Another award winner, concert pianist Richard Glazier, who was the star of three PBS specials, will perform on August 3.

Coronado resident, Diane Alexander, who has sung with several opera companies including the New York City Opera will be singing in the unusual setting of the library lobby after hours on Saturday, August 17. The setting was chosen for the acoustical effect and will be sure to create a special event.

Left Coast Quintet and Euphoria Brass band will round out the concert component of the Summer Festival which also features lectures and story times that library staff promise will come with a twist, movies and unique exhibits. A massive part of the Coronado scene for 20 years, the festival will provide a range of entertainment options every week throughout the summer.

This year the festival is being provided solely by the Friends of the Library which welcomes support or co-sponsors.
