Lifelong learners in Coronado will soon be able to choose from an expanded list of top-quality lectures from award-winning experts and professors from the most respected educational institutions in the world. The CD and DVD recordings of college level courses will be available for checkout at the library just like a popular movie or audio book.

The library already has a collection of 85 topics by top professors in the Great Courses series but thanks to a generous donation, more than 100 additional new courses are about to more than double the collection. Making the classes free at the library mirrors an emerging trend in adult education: the MOOC, or Massive Open Online Course, whereby colleges are starting to make some of their lectures or classes freely available online.

Did Downton Abbey peak your interest in British History? You can check out the History of England: From the Tudors to the Stuarts and get up to speed. Interested in learning more about the world’s religions? You might even want to learn how to practice mindfulness, strengthen writing skills, or master the art of public speaking. Other partners include the Smithsonian, National Geographic, Mayo Clinic, and The Culinary Institute of America.

There are no tests, assignments or prerequisites. You can choose the specific format that fits your life, whether it is video or audio, and learn at your own pace.
