The library will be hold some fun events this coming week, Microscopic Fun on Saturday, June 15, and entertainers and illusionists Raphael and Katia on Tuesday, June 18.

Volunteer scientists from UCSD will be hosting a microscope party at the library on Saturday, June 15. Residents of any age are invited to bring specimens from their backyard, the beach or anywhere else and get help seeing and interpreting them under one of several professional grade microscopes that will be in the library’s Winn Room. Volunteers will also bring some interesting specimens of their own to showcase.

“This is a casual drop-in event with no sign-up necessary,” said biologist, Dr. Callen Hyland. “Just come by the Winn room anytime between 3 and 5 p.m.”

A magic and comedy act that was showcased on America’s Got Talent will be appearing at the library on Tuesday, June 18, to kick off the summer reading program. Highly rated illusionists and entertainers, Raphael and Katia, will start their show in the Winn Room at 2 p.m. The summer reading program awards prizes for reaching reading goals, with the emphasis on reading as fun. Open to all ages, the program is designed to prevent a slump in literacy skills that many kids experience over the long summer break. The Raphael and Katia show is the first of many entertaining programs at the library throughout the summer. The teen summer reading program will launch on Wednesday, June 19, with the opening of a display of art by local teens.

The library is located at 640 Orange Avenue. For more information, call 619-522-7390.
