Soroptomist International of Coronado (SIC) is recognizing a historic time in Region 10 of the California Community College system at their annual Legends Luncheon this coming April.

For the first time, all six community college districts in Region 10 of the California Community College system—which includes San Diego and Imperial counties—are led by women, and SIC has selected all six to be their 2020 Legends.

Members of the club attended the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community College Association (SDICCCA) meeting on Dec. 2, 2019 to congratulate the awardees. The six CEOs and their districts are:

Dr. Cindy Miles, Chancellor, Grossmont Community College District; Dr. Martha Garcia, Superintendent/President, Imperial Valley Community College District; Dr. Sunita Cooke, Superintendent/President, MiraCosta Community College District; Dr. Joi Blake, Superintendent/President, Palomar Community College District; Dr. Constance Carroll, Chancellor, San Diego Community College District; and Dr. Kindred Murillo, Superintendent/President, Southwestern Community College District

Legends are exceptional women who have served their community, state, or nation as leaders and contributors to the improvement of the lives of women and girls. Legends have distinguished themselves through their efforts to guide and inspire others. The Legends serve as role models of caring for and commitment to a better world.

Soroptimist International (SI) is a worldwide organization of volunteers working together to transform the lives of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities. SI has been in existence for nearly 100 years with a mission of promoting education as the key to unlocking economic empowerment of the world’s women and girls. When women and girls are educated, they have the opportunity, choice, and power to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families. As community college leaders, these six women have helped tens of thousands of students realize their dreams of better opportunity.

The 2020 Legends will be honored at the 17th Annual Legends Luncheon on April 25, 2020 at the Coronado Marriott Resort Hotel. For more information go to
