Resurrection Lutheran Church put together a creative way to connect with the community on Palm Sunday, April 5. They put out palm branches on the corner of Fifth Street and Orange Avenue for anyone in the community to take home and put in their windows and show connectivity even with social distancing.
If someone couldn’t come to pick up a palm, they encouraged to put up any green branch in their windows. “It was a good outreach into the community,” said Pastor Brian Oltman. “About 75 palms were taken by the neighborhood to observe Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.”
The popular Easter Sunrise Service put on by Resurrection Lutheran Church each year has been cancelled for this year. The church hopes to put a Sunrise Resurrection Service at the beach in May or June, whenever it is safe to do so. Meanwhile, Resurrection is offering Zoom connection each Sunday. “We are encouraging everyone to hunker down and keep safe at home,” said Oltman. “We are using Zoom to connect as a community and have a group called Time Together each Sunday until this pandemic passes.” Everyone is welcome to participate in the Zoom connection.
